Are you an overachiever? Underachiever? Somewhere in the middle?
By what standard do you use to make this decision?
Using a worldly standard may bring you fame & fortune but leave you feeling hollow on the inside.
Using a heavenly standard will fill you in ways you never imagined but may leave you virtually unknown by others.
Which is better?
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. – Matthew 6:19-24 ESV
I choose to seek the achievements that only come from a close, intimate relationship with the King of Kings.
Over all I’m somewhere in the middle. However, I’d usually rather collaborate than compete with others. So that probably hurts me in the overachiever department. As for differing standards. I led a youth devotional once where the lesson said to pass out rulers to the kids and let them measure things. What they didn’t know is the rulers were all different—only a few of them measured correctly. It was a real eye opener when the young people came back with different measurements for the same items. The point hit home; there must be a consistent standard to go by when measuring things. When it comes to truth, God is the utmost standard.

If we use the worldly measuring stick, we will never measure up. We will simply not be brave enough, smart enough, pretty enough…but with God….We are ENOUGH.💜

I came to a similar conclusion when writing my post.
God does have a unique plan for each of us, and He has us exactly where we need to be. His standard is the only one that counts.

I was just telling my husband today that for Lent my theme will be “good enough.” I tend to lean toward perfectionism, but it isn’t usually helpful. I want to lean instead on Jesus’s perfection.

There are many measurements of success, but I think you’ve found the right one.
