Four Somethings (June 2022)

Share Four Somethings is a monthly link-up that [Heather] started back in 2018. The concept is to share the same four topics every month as a way to look back and recap your month. The link-up opens on the 4th Saturday of every month and stays open for one week. The topics for 2022 are Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Braved/Saved, and Something Achieved. If you want to learn a little more about the topics, we will be writing about in 2022; you can read more about them at Share Four Somethings in 2022.

Something Gleaned

As the country goes crazy over the latest Supreme Court decision and people scream their opinions from the rooftops (or their favorite social media outlets), I have realized that I have people in my life who are fired up on both sides of the argument. Through it all, I have realized anew that if you are my friend (or in my family) I love you regardless of your politics, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or any other difference that we have!

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.” – Mathew 22:36-40 NASB

Something Loved

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be hiking the rocky trails at Devil’s Lake like a confident mountain goat I would have told you that you were out of your cotton-pickin’ mind.

BUT GOD…

… gave me an amazing medical team and I am now 180 lbs (81.6 kg) lighter and a whole lot healthier.

Thank You, God for giving me my life back!

Something Braved or Saved

Something Achieved

This month I have been able to let go of some things that have been weighing heavily on my heart and mind. I attribute this change to the work of the Holy Spirit and a dear friend who shared truth with me that God spoke to her. My heart has softened in areas where I thought there were permanent calluses.

  1. I concur with your attitude about the recent decision by the Supreme Court. There will always be people whose opinions I differ with but that does not mean I can’t show the love of Christ and maintain friendships.

  2. Loved the part about the hiking! Congratulations on your new healthy lifestyle. If you come to Michigan, especially the northern Lower Peninsula, you can find hiking/ biking trails of all levels of difficulty. We try to hike new trails every summer, and more often than not, we pass over sand dunes overlooking Lake Michigan and/or smaller lakes. It’s beautiful! Or are you already in Michigan? (Where is Devils Lake?)

  3. Congratulations on the hiking achievement! That’s encouraging to read – I’m excited about being able to walk and hike again once I’m healed up from a knee replacement. Perhaps something I’ll list as Something Achieved in an upcoming post!

  4. Well done on your hiking – that’s great that you’ve been able to achieve things you wouldn’t have imagined in the past! I love the “Be still and know that I am God” breakdown that you saved.

  5. You’ve definitely got the right spirit, Barb! “I love you regardless of your politics, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or any other difference that we have!” Amen to this.

What a joy to have your life back and be doing the things you want to do. Hiking like a mountain goat sounds amazing. 🙂 And what a blessing that you were able to let go of some heavy burdens this month. Always a win.
