In our house we love movies. Our movie collection includes everything from classics to recent thrillers and children’s to documentaries. If none of those strike our fancy, we can always find something to VIEW on a streaming service or at the local theater.
We have friends that we can call at a moment’s notice and they will willingly join us for a movie marathon (and food). On days like this, we each raid our movie cabinet and choose DVD’s to share for the day’s VIEWING pleasure. As you can imagine, we have discovered some new favorites.
If you are married, do you have another couple that you can do life with? I’m talking about friends who will answer your call in the middle of the night and do whatever you ask. These same friends will pray for you. They will keep you accountable. They will treat your children like their own. When you are in pain, they cry with you. When you rejoice, they celebrate with you.
It is also important for married couples to enjoy time apart in order to pursue their own hobbies and have their own friends. These relationships help us to see different perspectives (views) and grow as individuals.
Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs 19:20-21 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, – 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV
We do not have friends that I would describe that way – that are that close. I am grateful for good friends but having friends “to do life with” I believe would be a real blessing!

Even though I’m much reduced
in scope and capability,
Barb and I have long deduced
that people are afraid of me.
She says that I am most polite,
soft spoken, kind, and yet…and yet,
something in me conjures fright
and makes of me a latent threat.
Thus our friends are hers alone;
for me, nobody comes to call,
and there seems, made from hard stone,
a high and brooding fortress wall
with portcullis at the gate
behind which I wave, smile, and wait.

Sometimes folks are afraid if we pile on too much of our need. Bit even our spouse can easily do all of life together. Friends do matter and we treasure those few true friends that we have but only Jesus is the friend closer than a brother ( or mom, dad or wife).

We love movies, too! Years ago, when our kids were young, we had friends we could call on a minute’s notice to come share some food, or watch a movie or both. It was fun. We are in a more rural area now, so people don’t live as close. But we are working towards more community, because we all need it. Blessings to you! I’m your neighbor at #MondayMusings.

Good for you and your spouse! Unfortunately, we are mismatched spiritually and while we are nice to each others friends, there isn’t a lot in common. God knows all though.

I’m the movie lover in our house. My husband can’t sit through a whole movie!
Also don’t have the kind of friends you described. This is something I’m praying for.

Other couples that we can “do” life with are so very precious – some have stood by through thick and thin, laughter and tears. These are the very ones who know exactly when to turn up on the doorstep unannounced with baking, DVDs to share and arms ready to cuddle and comfort.
Just stopped by from FMF #29

I remember many years ago having a couple we spent a lot of time with – living next door! (Betty and Wilma. 😉 ) I wish we had a couple like that now, although our daughter and her husband are our closest friends now. It’s great to be less than a mile from them.

I can’t sit through a whole movie, I’m like the kid that can’t sit still. I do have my best friend in Christ and we do life together. She is truly a treasure to me.

Until the last few years, I had never known anyone who doesn’t like/enjoy movies. It seems to be waaay more common than I realized.

We have friends who are against watching movies. So we don’t have that in common. But we can do a lot of other things together.
I myself have a lot of friends. But as a couple we don’t have many mutual friends. We are too different. But I know his friends 🙂

After over 15 years of friendship, we just recently discovered that our friends like pinochle. So now we have a new thing to do together. The key is to look for things you have in common (type of food, walking, sports, books, board games, art…..)
I have discovered that there’s always something we have in common with others…it may just take time to discover it.

We’ve been blessed with one couple like that in every place we have lived. And we love movies, too! One of my favorite couple get-togethers was like that on a Sunday night after church: we decided to meet and each raided our own food stores to bring something to share.

I wish we had a fellow couple like that! Honestly, at this point, I’d be happy for us both to have in-person friends. It doesn’t help matters that my husband doesn’t go to church or really anywhere.
We are also fellow movie lovers. It’s one of the things I cover a lot on my blog.
