So here is the challenge Lisa issued to the One Word Community for the month of September:
You and your One Word have been together for 9 months. You’ve likely learned a lot from it.
But is still there more to learn during the last quarter of 2023?
Of course! Look up your One Word on Wikipedia or a resource of your choice. See if you can discover 2 or 3 new facts about your word.
- What 2 or 3 new facts did you learn about your word?
- Does it change how you view your word?
- Does it give you a new idea for practicing your word?
We want to know if you find anything new or if it confirms what you already know.

I tried Wikipedia and came up empty for “TEACH”…

When I searched for “LEARN” the search defaulted to “LEARNING”.
I then typed in define teach/learn and found:
What is the meaning of teach learn?
4.6. Teach-to-Learn Meaning: This classic dictum is normally used to explain how those who teach learn a surprising amount from both the act of teaching and from their students. Mar 31, 2023

So there you have it…the more we teach others the more we are apt to learn ourselves. Yep, I chose (I mean God gave me) the right words for 2023.

Amen Barbara! And so often I have discovered that in teaching the little bit of word that God gives, He unfolds some new wrinkle or mystery in the sharing. ( like multiplying the five loaves with many). Thanks!

Very nice, Barb! I recently found out more background on the word “resiliency.” I thought it meant the ability to keep going, but it actually means more like springing back into shape–when stressed. I like the scripture poster you made. Did you do this with Canva? I hope your school year is going well. How do you like teaching?

Oooooo… I like that definition of resiliency.
The “poster” was made by Vanessa at https://braveblessedandbeautiful.com/
The school year is crazy, fun, rewarding and exhausting (depending on the day). How are you doing with your new responsibilities?

I love what you discovered, Barb (and also disappointed in Wikipedia for not having separate entries for Teach or Learn!). I agree that when I teach is when I learn the most. It’s as if our brain understands how crucial it is to REALLY know the material if we’re going to try explaining it to someone else. Thanks for doing that for us!

Thank you for this beautifully written blog post for the September update. The more I learn about God, the smaller I feel, and the greater He becomes to me. Warm regards, Aritha
