This month’s One Word 2023 challenge is as follows:
As we pause in November to give thanks for the blessings in our lives, are you thankful for your One Word, too?
Try a gratefulness practice with your One Word. Write down 5 or 6 things that you’re grateful for about your word this year.
Such as, “Thank you for…”
- A lesson your word taught you
- New people you’ve met thanks to your word
- Improved attitudes you’ve adopted due to your word
- Physical changes instigated by your word
- Spiritual disciplines shaped by your word
If you’d like, write these down on an actual thank-you card. Place the card where you’ll find it again in a few weeks as a reminder to remain grateful for how your word served you in 2023.
We’d love to see your list, too! Take a photo or screenshot of your list and share it with us in a blog post or in our Facebook group.

Dear Teach/Learn,
When I “chose” you as my 2023 WOTY I had no idea what a journey we were in for.
But God did.
I did not understand how my teaching philosophy would change.
But God did.
I did not know how my work life would change.
But God did.
I was not aware of how important it would be for me to maintain an A average (4.0).
But God did.
I was not ready for the curveballs that came my way.
But God was.
I was unaware of the new relationships that were in my future.
But God was.
I was not prepared for my “favorite” students to move on.
But God was there to comfort me.
I wonder where we will be this time next year, dear friend.
God already knows.
With Sincere Appreciation,
Barb

Barb, what great lessons and encouragement your word has been for you!!

“But God did.” It is amazing how God knows every lesson He longs to teach us along our journey. We may not know, but God did. Beautiful lessons, Barb.
