SYNOPSIS
She’s spent her life writing everyone else’s love story. It’s time she learns to write her own.
Beloved and sickly since childhood, Mary Danforth lends her pen to her siblings’ courtships while accepting her own inevitable spinsterhood. When her brother returns home with a brooding, handsome captain in tow, Mary strikes up an unlikely friendship with the gentleman that makes her dare to dream of more.
Captain William Hayes has never thought to take a wife, not with his own fortunes as uncertain as they are. But seeing an admirable young lady unnecessarily give up on all her prospects might just be what it takes to make him want to sort out a better future, specifically one with her.
A sweet, cozy, bite-sized historical romance.
REVIEW
It seems I have read quite a few novellas lately. Novellas are perfect for vacation reading because they can be read in an hour or so.
This sweet story was the perfect tale to erase the stress of the summer craziness at work.
I received this book free from the author, publisher, or other source. My only obligation is to provide a fair and honest review.
Summer shouldn’t be stressful, but this one certainly is. My book club is reading Tess of the D’Urbervilles this month. Although it is a good book, it has been hard to read as a book club because we meet weekly and so many members are in and out on trips. Last summer we read a collection of historical novellas by Francine Rivers. It worked perfectly for the intermittent nature of attendance.
