I don’t need anyone!
I can do it on my own!
I want more in my life than just…
Why is God letting this happen to me?
I agree with what you are saying, but…
We hear these phrases all of the time, but do we take a personal risk and try to find out what is going on behind these words? Digging deeper into the minefield of someone’s past hurts and current insecurities can lead to spiritual and emotional struggles for both parties. However, if you persevere and help someone discover (or rediscover) the peace that accompanies the saving grace of a relationship with Jesus Christ; every moment you invest into that relationship will have eternal rewards.
Some things to remember before you start peeking behind the curtain:
- Sin in our lives can prevent God from blessing us
- Sometimes God allows things to happen in order to draw you or someone close to you to Him.
- Do not put conditions on your obedience. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. Matthew 5:37 (NKJV)
Below I have listed some passages that illustrate this further:
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ 1 Corinthians 2:9-16 (NIV)
Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit… Colossians 1:10 (NLT)
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 NKJV
Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NIV)
I know it is scary and the last thing you want to do is get sucked into someone else’s drama. Nevertheless, we are called to serve. And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)
So I ask you, who is in ultimately in charge, anyway? Will you follow His lead and reach out to a friend (or stranger) who is hurting?
