There sure was a lot happening on February 2nd this year.
I am sure most who are reading this attended some sort of worship service.
But what about the special events that were celebrated in the US?
First there is Groundhog Day. It’s a silly holiday where we wait expectantly for a groundhog to come out of his hole. If he sees his shadow we are in for 6 more weeks of winter.
I live near Woodstock, IL where the movie Groundhog Day was filmed; so Groundhog Day is a pretty big deal around here.
Then of course there was the big game, ( aka Super Bowl). It is the championship game for the NFL (National Football League).
People go to Super Bowl parties for a variety of reasons. Many actually watch the game & cheer for their favorite team. But the rest fall into one of two categories; the commercial watchers or the snackers.
My husband & I had plans to divide & conquer. Or in other words the guys were going to watch the game at one house while my BFF & I watched chick-flicks at our house. Well our spouses were both under the weather so my BFF & I proceeded on our own. Not the typical way to “watch” the Super Bowl,; but I was watching something. So it still counts…right?
However, the highlight of my day was spending an hour at the McHenry County Jail. Mary, my partner for the day, prepared a wonderful message on what the Bible says about love. She stressed that love is a choice not a feeling. We talked about what love is & what it isn’t.
As it says in 1 Corinthians 13:
It was evident that this was the perfect message for the group of ladies in attendance.
We ended our time with our monthly communion service. Before we partook of the elements we talked about why we do communion & what the bread & the wine really mean.
I am convinced that God shows up each & every time that the McHenry County Helping Hands is there. It is such a pleasure to serve God with this amazing team of believers.
