This Sunday is my turn to prepare the message for the ladies at McHenry County Jail. I thought that I knew what I was supposed to speak on. However, today as I sat down to write, God steered me in a completely different direction. When He does this, the words tend to flow quickly and easily. I have a real sense of peace about the message that I have prepared. The handouts have been translated from English to Spanish. I have the sign-in sheet and prayer request forms ready to go. Now I just need to pick some worship music.

I often remind them that we are all just 1 bad decision from being in their shoes. We are very honest about our own struggles. Many of the ladies that I serve with have people in their family who are or have been incarcerated.

Exactly true . We are all just 1 bad decision away. I have a ministry of court observing here in NL. I just go to the local court when it is in session and I sit and ‘observe’, but I also go there to pray. Many people get themselves into difficulty through alcohol, other substances, or mental health issues. I also pray for wisdom for the lawyers and judges.
I remember our Lord said in the scriptures that when we visit someone in prison, we are visiting him.

I pray for the special grace and power upon you that will break chains mentally and spiritually. May God use you mightily in that service in the prison. Go in the Spirit of the Lord I am praying for you.
