Change Those Lies to Truth

God could never forgive me. You don’t know what I have done.

I need to fix my life before I think about this “Jesus stuff”.

If I walked into a church the walls would fall down.

I was baptized as an infant. so I am going to Heaven.

All good people go to Heaven.

There is no such place as Hell.

All religions lead to the same place.

A loving God would not have let ________ happen.

I am sure that you could add many more lies to this list. The question is, what do you do when you come across them? Do you ignore it or meet the challenge head on? My friend, if you ignore it, you are condemning that person to an eternity separated form God. You don’t have to launch into a full blown sermon, BUT you MUST speak TRUTH.

All humans are wired to search for God and that search is different for everyone. The gospel NEVER changes but the method of delivery comes in a variety of flavors. Before you speak, as God to guide your words and actions. I bet you could tell many stories of how your loved ones came to Christ. Was it a causal conversion? A book you recommended? A movie? Talking about a tragic event? Years of prayer & discipleship? You get the point.

In discipling others we ought to cover the following:

  1. It starts with LOVE

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” – Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)

2. God hates SIN

These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren. – Proverbs 6:16-19
(NKJV)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:25 (NKJV)

You who love the Lord, hate evil!
He preserves the souls of His saints;
He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. – Psalms 97:10

3. Salvation is FREE

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. _ John 3:16 (NKJV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23 ((NKJV)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. – John 14:6 (NKJV)

4. Jesus WILL return

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. – Matthew 24:36(NKJV)

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. – Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. May you go into the battle with the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:10-20) in your head, your heart and your hands.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, – Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)

  1. Thank you Barb! Satan is full of lies and is the father of lies. I’m thankful for the truth of God’s Word. May it guide us in every way, and I pray we as Christians will be effective witnesses to others.

  3. True but sad how these lies have debarred some people from coming to the saving grace in Christ Jesus.
Another lie is “I am the worst sinner, Christ can’t save me’ or “My burdens are too much, How can a being bear it all for me”?.
