Today I have been looking at what the Bible says about mothers & decided to share some of the passages with you. All scripture is from the NIV.
Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living. – Genesis 3:20
Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. – Titus 2:4-5
Whoever spares the rod hates their children,
but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. – Proverbs 13:24
“‘Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.- Leviticus 19:3
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9
And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” – ! Samuel 1:11
Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him. – Psalm 127:3
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be. – Psalm 139:13-16
If someone curses their father or mother,
their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness. Proverbs 20:20
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. – Proverbs 31:28-31
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah – 1:5
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” – Ephesians 6:1-3
and she said to him, “Pardon me, my lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. 27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there. – ! Samuel 1:26-28
This is only a smattering of the rich lessons for mother’s and their children. The Bible is the inspired word of God: therefore we can trust it to guide ALL of our relationships
Happy Mother’s Day!
