Have you ever wondered what makes Head Start different from other preschool programs? Click the following link to find out WHAT WE DO !
Dear Diary,
I can’t believe this will be the final goodbye for the 2019-20 school year at Community Action Agency -Head Start for McHenry County – Crystal Lake Center. How did we get here?
FRIDAY MARCH 13, 2020 The decision was made to close all Head Start centers in the county for the next 2 weeks (one of which was spring break).
SATURDAY MARCH 21,2020 We began what was supposed to be 30 days under a stay-at-home order.
MONDAY MARCH 30, 2020 The adventure of e-learning began with Learning Genie, Zoom meetings, YouTube Videos & private Facebook groups all in an effort to continue to educate the 64 students under our care, have meaningful family engagement and of course see the progress of all of our friends.
FRIDAY APRIL 17, 2020 Governor Pritzker orders ALL schools in the state of Illinois be closed for the remainder of the school year.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 22, 2020 I led the the parade to deliver the school supplies that our children would need to finish out the school year. CLICK HERE for more details.
FRIDAY JUNE 12, 2020 Today was the first time I have been back into the building where Head Start meets. It kind of felt like one of those post-apocalyptic movies where everyone just vanished. Artwork had begun to fall of the walls, most of the lights were off and the hallways were void of children. Three hours later, I had taken down the bulletin boards that Janet and I worked so hard to create & filled 64 buckets in preparation for next weeks drive-by graduation parade.
THURSDAY JUNE 18, 2020 This is it, the final time we will see this year’s students. It definitely was not the graduation ceremony that we had originally planned. However, this being the year of Covid-19 closings, a drive-by graduation parade was the best we could do. It was a bittersweet day, realizing how much the kiddos have changed since we last saw them in person (March 12)
The video we created to say CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020 .

So very sweet! So glad you got to see them for the drive-by graduation!

Despite the hardship issues cause it wonderful to see how creative people have been to keep a touch of caring going. Great job.

Thank you, in some ways it was harder that being in the classroom/on the bus. God willing, we will be back to normal on August 30th when school starts again. πππ
