Labor Day 2020

I always considered Labor Day in the US to be a holiday where we celebrated all those who put their blood, sweat & tears into making our country the strong nation that it is. Today, I want to put another spin on it.

In this time of social distancing, why not take today & truly REST in Him.

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done . Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. Genesis 2:2-3 NKJV

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

Instead of a barbecue, picnic or other traditional last hurrah of summer. Let’s spend a quiet day with Our Creator.

  1. Excellent thought, Barb! Too often, we have been a people that goes busily from one thing to the next. Rest was prescribed for a reason. We really need in both our bodies and our spirits. 😊

  2. I think two Sabbaths in a row is a good idea. I’ll have to share that my mother always had a list of chores for us to do on Labor Day. She would teasingly say, “it’s called Labor Day so you are supposed to work.” She had 6 kids so she could justifiably ask for a little work when we had a day off. School never started until the day after Labor Day so as an adult I can understand her thinking, and she never made us work the whole day. Also, as a mom, she never had a day off.
