A couple of weeks ago, my Thursday Night Ladies Bible Study (The Jesus Who Surprises) took a detailed look at Religion vs. The Gospel. Sadly, when issues arise in our lives we all too often default to the Religion side of the chart instead of putting our faith in Jesus.
Take a look at the chart below. The Religion side of the chart represents a works-based faith, whereas The Gospel side represents grace. Which side of the chart do you tend to fall on? What does this say about your faith? Do you see any areas where your perspective needs to change?
“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT)

I had a good thinking on this one. Thanks for sharing.

This is wonderful Barb, thanks for sharing this resource! I have many times over the years counseled folks about being caught up in the wrong ‘R’ word, religion. The life we as believers as called to resonates with the proper ‘R’ word, relationship. When we receive the vertical of God’s love down to us, we can then live out the horizontal as we reach others with the Good News.
Our ministry was founded on this principle, found in James 1:27: Religion that God our Father accepts as pure nd faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress nd to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Blessings,
Chuck

Religion is man made and faith comes from the Lord, when we seek Him with our whole heart we will come to understand the difference.

Wonderful insights here, Barb. Sounds like your Bible study time must have been so enriching. When I first started out on my journey with Jesus, I definitely was more works-oriented. I am indescribably grateful for His patience and loving persistence in moving me deeper into His grace every day!

Our faith walk is a personal walk; God meets each and every one of us where we are; every relationship is one on one. This is a beautiful thing in that God cherishes each of us for our uniqueness. Great post!
