I don’t think that I have ever used the word peaceable. So back to Dictionary.com I went.
Peaceable is an adjective that means inclined or disposed to avoid strife or dissension; not argumentative or hostile.
We need look no further than Romans 12:18 to find what the Bible has to say:
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”
Is it REALLY possible to live at peace with EVERYONE?
I guess the answer depends on ones perspective. If we cultivate an attitude of gratitude and seek to see others as God sees them; God will be faithful to provide us with peace. Now this does not mean that everyone we meet will like us or, dare I say, respect us. What it does mean is that Christ’s love will be evident in our every thought word & deed. Those that are stuck in their worldliness, may be put off by the scent of godliness, but that is for God to handle not us.
You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:22 NIV
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. Romans 12:19 NIV

One definition of peaceable I found was “to bring peace whit it”, As believers, we carry the peace of God into every situation. That is part of the scent of godliness, I like that phrase!

“People put off by the scent of godliness.” That’s a great word picture. Helps me remember it’s not about me. It’s God in me—like or don’t like.

True, we are the aroma of Christ – the aroma of life to those who are being saved, but the stench of death to those who are perishing.
(II Corinthians 2:15-16)

Yes it is. Much of what I write ends up being a lesson for myself.
