When we savor something, we stop and enjoy the moment with our senses.
Is it a bite of your favorite dessert?
How about a quiet moment in an otherwise chaotic day?
Did you pause to enjoy that sunset?
Have you ever thought of savoring you time with God?
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. – Psalm 34:8 NIV
This Psalm has been set to music many times & in a variety of styles but I think THIS ONE is my favorite.
When we “taste & see that the Lord is good” we are in essence savoring the very nature of our Creator. Do you purposefully spend time experiencing God with ALL of your senses on a regular basis? If this concept feels uncomfortable to you, ask God to show you new ways to experience Him. I can attest to how faithful He is to strengthen and encourage those who wholly submit to His will.
As we abide in Christ and savor God’s goodness; we will begin to taste & see all of the blessings the Holy Spirit is waiting to bestow on us.

Yes! I was thinking of this Psalm as I wrote this morning, too! You’re right, I do think there is so much untapped potential in our physical senses for connecting with God. Thank you for sharing.

Well said, and in five minutes flat!
The thought of experiencing God with the whole self brought to mind the passage that says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” It takes all of our senses to do this!
Thank you for your faithfulness on WP, Barb. You are remarkably consistent and prolific at the same time!
Blessings always. 🙏

Amen! Too often do we rush our times with God when we ought to slow down and allow ourselves to fully experience His presence. When we pay attention, He has so many ways of speaking and drawing near to us! Thanks for an excellent reminder, Barb!

I “savor” Him with my imagination, as I long for (and imagine what it will be like) to see His face (preferably smiling at me), hear His voice (saying my name ❤ ), feel His embrace (our hearts beating in sync), and being enveloped in His fragrance – the "aroma of life."

Yes, excellent approach to those verses! I think the thing we all miss the most is spending quality time with the Lord. That quality time involves quantity also but it is so hard to do in our world with so many distractions. When we do spend that time with Him, we do savor His Presence and we are so much the better for it!
