Have you ever thought something like this:
“I have not right to speak to ______ about the sinful things that they are doing because I used to be jsut as bad as they are.”
If so I’m here to tell you that you are believing a lie. Consider this passage from 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV:
I believe this passage is telling us that the more we involve the scripture in our daily lives the more it becomes part of who we are. This is not a quick process. As a matter of fact we should continue to ABIDE in the word “all the days of our lives” (Ps 27:4 NIV).
Now let’s take it a step further when the verse says that scripture is “useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training” you are given PERMISSION to speak truth to others as you are lead by the Holy Spirit. Not only that, but I believe that neglecting to teach, rebuke, correct and train others you are in fact giving them over to the evil one.
If God calls you to a task, you need not ask again for permission. Just do it!!
Thanks for the encouragement you commented on my blog! Returning the visit. Truth here.
I too want to do some prison ministry at some point. Good to hear you are living into your calling! JC

I think it takes great discernment to know when the Holy Spirit is urging us to speak to someone else’s behavior and you’re right, being in God’s Word is the only way to gain it. You’ve given me something to think about. Thank you! Your #FMF neighbor, Cindy

Agree! if we are God’s servants we have a responsibility to teach, and we should not be afraid to follow the prompts of the Spirit. Important — and not always easy! — to “rebuke, correct and train” in a loving and constructive way. We need to abide there, maybe, and choose our moment.

Such truth is this statement: “I believe this passage is telling us that the more we involve the scripture in our daily lives the more it becomes part of who we are.” Thank you for the reminder!

I find that people are slightly more receptive to ‘correction’ if it comes in the form of a Bible verse. Such as, the Bible says ….. about that. That way it’s not YOU correcting them, it’s God! 🙂

Great connection between abide and permission from the spiritual perspective. We can also make it from a human perspective: we can’t speak as effectively into a person’s life if we’re not investing in relationship with them already. Thanks for sharing this at our One Word linkup!

This is always a difficult thing – but learning how to tell someone what they’re doing is wrong and saying it with love takes wisdom and practice. Thank you for your wise words.
PS: Sorry I got here so late!
