Stuck in Recovery Mode

How often have you heard phrases like, “it is what it is,” “this has to end soon…right?”, or “because of covid-19”, in the last 18 months?

I know that I hear these and others on a daily basis. My friends, we are stuck in recovery mode…but maybe, just maybe…the end is in sight.

What can we do in the mean time?

Complain? – Do all things without complaining or arguments;so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, – Philippians 2:14-15 NASB

Put our collective heads in the sand? – On that day I will carry out against Eli everything that I have spoken in regard to his house, from beginning to end.For I have told him that I am going to judge his house forever for the wrongdoing that he knew, because his sons were bringing a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them. – 1 Samuel 3:12-13 NASB

Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude? – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. – Psalm 107:1 NIV

Listen for & obey the still small voice? – Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord , but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake;and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”And he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”1 Kings 19:11-14 NKJV

Dear Reader, I know that at times it seems impossible but our lives will eventually RECOVER some semblance of normalcy. But I the mean time, there is still much to do. We are called to ABIDE in Him and be obedient. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

  1. Abide in Him. Yes! We can do that daily. It is enough. Cheers to the weekend with my empty cup! Time to refill with God’s Word as you’ve done for me, and for a new cup of water after this tea! Jennifer, FMF

  2. I used to think I might get better,
that my life again would thrive,
but you know, it doesn’t matter
that I won’t get out alive
for I’ve learned a thing or three
of my faith and God’s own heart,
and won’t stand on my dignity,
but rather, now, have made a start
to shout the good news from the roof
    (well, figurative, my friend)
that of His love I’m living proof,
that death can never be the end,
and am, like David, God’s own dancer
in the flaming hell of cancer.

  3. I’m not sure I was ever hoping to “get back to normal.” Sure, we learned to appreciate things we took for granted before, but as I’m always saying, “‘Normal’ is overrated.” This past year has been … different, to say the least – it’s been anything from inconvenient, to hell-on-earth, or somewhere in between. But it’s what the LORD allowed, and He is in control. He has a plan! So, pulling my head out of the sand, I’m looking forward to what He has planned.

  4. I appreciate how you emphasized that we have a choice and I appreciate this key truth, Barb, “We are called to ABIDE in Him and be obedient. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

  5. I’ve said those phrases SO many times in the past year. But I do see the end in sight! Things have already changed a lot where I live. There are still some things I’ve not done yet (like, go back to church), but I think it will all happen sooner rather than later. But in the meantime? Yes, abide!

  6. I say adhere to all the verses you mentioned and there abide. Through Christ Jesus we are more than conquerors when we abide in Him. Thanks Barb! 🤗

  7. Wonderful post! There is so much in life that we will never understand; trusting God day by day to lead us is what He asks from us. It is always enough. God never leaves us alone and He hears our every prayer. Also, He is the one who knows and loves us best. We can trust Him every step of the way…
