I don’t know about you but I love the thought of my pets being considered – rescues. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for animals with a pedigree, “but as for me and my house” we adopt our pets from a local shelter or bring them home from the family farm.
An animal is considered a rescue for a variety of reasons:
- Being found along the road or in an abandoned building
- Being dumped at a kill shelter
- Being in a home where they were mistreated by their owners or other animals
- Being born in a home/barn with too many other pets
- Living with a pet hoarder
- Giving birth or being born at a puppy mill
Our current rescues are named Mac n’ Cheese and Velcro. Can you guess which is which?

And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these [creatures] of Mine, you did it for Me.’ – Matthew 25:40 NASB (emphasis mine)

I showed your post to my youngest daughter who is an avid cat lover. She said, “Mac-n-Cheese” is the cutest name ever.” All our cats including our present have been farm kittens. Truly the best cats. As I’m typing, our tortoise shell is sneaking past my chair and up on our Lab. In a moment she’ll pounce on her head in hopes of a good game of chase. If she fails to engage she’ll go downstairs and have a go at the puppy. I love the dynamic a cat brings to the household.

They are sneaky little balls of love, aren’t they? I love the images that your words have created in my mind.

My wife and I have been blessed to rescue several dogs over the years. We’ve driven a Great Pyrenees to Denver, and a Great Dane to Topeka. It’s such a heartwarming experience!
One of my favorite verses that speaks of God’s love for animals is Psalm 36:6.
“Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord preserve both people and animals.”
Your cats are so happy looking and fluffy!

Since being in Chicago I have adopted a kitten that was orphaned in Cincinnati & when our daughter was about 2 she convinced us to adopt a barn kitten from my husband’s uncle’s farm in Minnesota. These two come from a little closer to home.

Mac-n-cheese is the orange cat. Velcro is the gray tabby?
We had a cat that looked just like your orange one. My young daughter called her Creamy Delight. Because she looked like orange sherbet.

They’re beautiful and look so contented! The grey looks very much like one of our past cats. All of ours except the first one I owned were rescues. Currently we have a calico named Aurora and a grey tabby named Merida – both so loved by the whole family
