Minute by Minute

ABIDING in Christ is a minute by minute decision. It is not a one-and-done act. Therefore, every time we are presented with an either/or scenario we must consider the eternal importance of our actions.

I am not saying this to alarm you. On the contrary, I am trying to illustrate how important a deeply devoted, Christlike lifestyle is.

“Impulsiveness needs to be trained into intuition through discipline … A follower of Christ “requires the supernatural grace of God to live twenty-four hours of every day as a saint, going through drudgery, and living an ordinary, unnoticed, and ignored existence” — Oswald Chambers

We don’t need to be important by the world’s standards to have an eternal impact on the lives of others. However, we are called to love God and love others (Mark 12:30-31) and the only way to accomplish this is to be still in His presence on a regular basis.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! – Psalm 46:10 NKJV

The Holy Spirit will use this time to train, encourage and mentor us.

Is there anything better than that?

  1. “And they took note of these men, that they had been with Jesus.” Peter and John were just fishermen, but the religious leaders were astonished at their knowledge and boldness. Yes, spending time with Jesus matters!

  2. An ordinary life, my friend?
Well, that’s just not for me,
    and I really can’t pretend
    loving anonymity.
I want my name in rainbow lights
    emblazoned ‘cross the sky,
my praises sung by girls in tights
    and even by some guy,
    perhaps even Clint Eastwood,
    telling of my manhood’s stature;
yeah, I think that would be good,
to explain to all the nature
of me, standing astride the Earth
marked for greatness from my birth.

  3. So true, Barb–> “It is not a one-and-done act.” The lazy part of me wishes it were so. 🙂 But God in his wisdom knew we needed to continue making the conscious decision again and again to stay in his presence.
