I am now & have always been a morning person. I absolutely cannot sleep in, even when I am sick.
For the last couple of years God has been waking me up at around 3:30 AM. I do not need an alarm clock.
Now this practice does have some side affects:
- I usually have at least two hours each morning for prayer & Bible study; accompanied by multiple cups of coffee.
- By the time most people are ready for breakfast, I’m ready for lunch.
- If we have a movie night it has to start early because I’m ready for bed at 8:00.
- I usually have at least one kitty on my lap during my quiet time.
- My relationship with Christ has strengthened immeasurably.
The Lord’ s acts of mercy indeed do not end, For His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I wait for Him.” – Lamentations 3:22-24b NASB
In the morning, Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will present my prayer to You and be on the watch. – Psalm 5:3 NASB
But as for me, I will sing of Your strength; Yes, I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning, For You have been my refuge And a place of refuge on the day of my distress. – Psalm 59:16 NASB
But I, Lord, have cried out to You for help, And in the morning my prayer comes before You. – Psalm 88:13 NASB
This is the day which the Lord has made; Let’s rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24 NASB
How important is daily quiet time to you?
I’ve always been a morning person too, Barb. I worked at local dairies during high school, and got up at 4:30 every morning to milk cows before school. Best job I’ve ever had. These days I get up at 5:15 am—almost two hours after you!

And I’ve kept a morning devotional time—about an hour—since I was a teenager, as well.

It’s very important. I need it to refocus. I have a hard time to find any time, for myself, and God. I’m so busy.

I wake up early too, but I can’t say I make as most use of that extra time as you! 🙂

I used to just watch the news. That was NOT a good way to start my day

3:30 mornings do happen occasionally for me as I have gotten older and coffee and Bible time is perfect for that hour. I have to confess though that I go back to sleep at 4:30 and snooze another hour or I am out of sorts for the day.

I applaud you for making use of your early mornings so well! I used to be very much a night owl and have long sleep-ins during the day. Now, I try to get up by around 8AM everyday, including weekends. It is especially important for me to keep the same rhythm during the week as during weekends. I still prefer night-time to mornings, but I rarely lie in bed past 9AM now. I realize this is really late compared to you, but it’s huge for me.

I tell myself I love a lie-in, but I don’t really, and it spoils my day. I love the feeling of being up and about early (especially out in a new city) but 03:30!? …
Daily quiet time I snatch it where I can, but the morning is precious too. Looks like I made a morning Psalm collation: https://lukesgospel739.wordpress.com/2016/02/10/psalm-verses-a-morningtime-prayer/
