It has been quite a while since I participated in Four Somethings with Heather Gerwing. Looking back the last time I played along was July 2021. Thank you, Lisa Burgess, for encouraging me to try again.
In case you are curious about this monthly link-up I have added the description from HeatherGerwing.com
What is Share Four Somethings? Share Four Somethings is a monthly link-up that [Heather] started back in 2018. The concept is to share the same four topics every month as a way to look back and recap your month. While some topics have changed over the years, some have remained. (I’m looking at you Something Loved!) [She has] enjoyed this monthly reflection as well as getting to know the others who have joined [her] on this adventure.
The link-up opens on the 4th Saturday of every month and stays open for one week. The topics for 2022 are Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Braved, and Something Achieved. If you want to learn a little more about the topics we will be writing about in 2022; you can read more about them at Share Four Somethings in 2022.
Without further ado. I present my responses:
(I’m a little out of practice so please be kind)
Something Gleaned
One surprising benefit of choosing ENCOURAGEMENT as my 2022 WOTY (Word of the Year) has been the boundless encouragement that has been given to me. As I started the year, I figured my goal was to send more snail mail to friends, family & strangers. But God had so much more in store for me. I promise to share more in the coming months.
Something Loved
I love reading. I used to read mostly fiction except for topical studies (for small group) and cookbooks. But in the last couple of years, I have steadily increased the number of non-fiction books I am reading. I have also set a goal of 208 books this year. That translates to four books a week.
I keep track of books read, currently reading, & want to read on goodreads. Since this week is Spring Break, I will have plenty of time to read. Especially since I had to cancel my trip and the weather at home is supposed to be cold and wet.
You can read some of my book reviews HERE.
Something Braved
Without being specific, I have had many personal and physical struggles this month. But with God’s help I have kept a smile on my face and joy in my heart. It has become abundantly clear to me that by abiding in Christ I can face anything that comes my way.
Something Achieved
After over 20 years in our current home, the master bedroom has finally been painted a beautifully calming blue-grey, complete with new bedding and artwork.
Wow! Congrats on the bedroom and being brave!!!

I’m happy to see your Four Somethings again, Barb! I love your something gleaned: so, is encouragement one of those things that the more you give, the more you get back? I’ve just been updating my Goodreads books tonight. I have a much smaller goal for the year than you. 🙂 Praying for your personal and physical struggles to be easier in the coming month.

I’m impressed by your 208 book goal. I read a lot of nonfiction which keeps my totals in the mid to upper 100s (takes longer to read and process than fiction for me). Hope you achieve it!

Megan, my goal last year was 3 per week.
In my book count everything is eligible (cookbooks, children’s books, ebooks, audio books etc) I figure the short children’s books offset the longer novels that are 400+ pages.

Welcome back, Barb! I love your book reviews. I always appreciate honest reviews by others giving me insight into whether the book is right for me. All praise to God for sustaining you along the hard paths!
