There have been times in my life when I might have been called a runner.
BUT NOW…
…I know better. I would much rather hike or walk on a treadmill than to ever run again. Running is way too hard on my knees and I am more apt to trip over invisible cracks in the sidewalk when I increase my speed.
HOWEVER…
… the Bible says “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24 NASB
“You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?” – Galatians 5:7 NASB
“I shall run the way of Your commandments, for You will enlarge my heart.” – Psalm 119:32 NASB
“For by You I can run at a troop of warriors; and by my God I can leap over a wall.” – Psalm 18:29 NASB
Yes, these verses talk about the physical act of running but they say so much more about how we live out our faith. It is not a one & done thing. Each and every day we must decide whether we will be obedient to the call of God on our lives or be lured into following worldly pursuits.
Said another way, it is better to walk with God than to run after anything else.
And now my leg is tumoured,
and I accept God’s plan,
but it’s whispered, rumoured
that long ago, I ran.
I can scarce remember now,
as muscle mem’ry fades,
but my worn trainers tell me how
I ran through green-leaf glades
and on up the horsey trail
to where there was a lovely view;
I had the world, oh, by the tail!
but I’ll tell it true
that though those days were good, and fun,
I’ve now a better race to run.

So true, Barb, “It is better to walk with God than to run after or be lured into following worldly pursuits.”

Walking with God is defintely the better choice, knowing he goes before us, behind us and beside us, and he sees every crack in the sidewalk that would escape our attention!

Very well said. And although I can’t run physically, my heart can always run to and with my Savior!

While running seems much more exciting, the daily walk is better – more consistency and commitment! Love the verses you chose, Barb.
Happy to be back with FMF.

Amen, Barb! We have a choice each day; will we follow God’s plan or our own? Most folks slip away from healthy relationships or life choices little by little. How we choose every day matters!
