How Should We Then Live (Video Series by Francis Schaeffer (1977)) [REVIEW]

I did this review in response to A GREAT LOVE STORY on Rhemalogy (blog by CF LEACH) as my Sunday Night Small Group has been going through the study.

SYNOPSIS

Drawing upon forty years of study in theology, philosophy, history, sociology and the arts, Dr. Schaeffer contemplates the reasons for modern society’s sorry state of affairs and argues for total affirmation of the Bible’s morals, values, and meaning. – Goodreads

This is Dr. Francis Schaeffer’s spectacular series on the rise and decline of Western culture from a Christian perspective. The series presents profound truths in simple language and concludes that man’s only hope is a return to God’s Biblical absolute — the Truth revealed in Christ through the Scriptures. Each 30-minute episode focuses on a significant era of history while presenting answers to modern problems:

The Roman Age
The Middle Ages
The Renaissance
The Reformation
The Revolutionary Age
The Scientific Age
The Age of Non-reason
The Age of Fragmentation
The Age of Personal Peace & Affluence
Final Choices

REVIEW

We still have a couple of lessons to go but I can say with certainty that we thoroughly enjoyed this study. It may have been made in the ’70s but truth is truth and doesn’t change over time. The issues discussed are still very much with us today. One part that I find particularly helpful is the comparison of the culture, art, and religious practices of each time period discussed.
