Love and Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs by Emerson Eggerichs [REVIEW]

New York Times best-selling marriage book with more than one million copies sold!

Based on over three decades of counseling, as well as scientific and biblical research, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs and his wife, Sarah, have already taken the Love & Respect message across America and are changing the way couples talk to, think about, and treat each other. What do you want for your marriage? Want some peace? Want to feel close? Want to feel valued? Want to experience marriage the way God intended? Then why not try some Love and Respect?

A wife has one driving need to feel loved. When that need is met, she is happy. A husband has one driving need?to feel respected. When that need is met, he is happy. When either of these needs isn’t met, things get crazy. Love & Respect reveals why spouses react negatively to each other, and how they can deal with such conflict quickly, easily, and biblically.

As you may know, in the last year or so I have read a number of books on the benefits of praying with and for your spouse. My obedience has taken our good marriage to the next level.

I first read this book when it was published in 2004 and at that time things for us were pretty rocky. In the ensuing 18 years, we have both matured and learned how to better love and respect one another. Even in the best marriages, there is always room for improvement.

As expected, I was reminded how important it is to demonstrate unconditional respect to my husband regardless of anything else that is happening in our lives.

  1. Good advice. Even if you don’t respect their immediate actions, respect that they are your husband. Contempt will destroy a marriage. It’s hard because sometimes people act contemptuously . That’s when you pray and ask God to help you do the hard thing, and not stoop to their current level . So hard! But worth it when God intervenes. Our men need God so badly!

  2. I read this book a few years ago…it was challenging because I felt like in our relationship I didn’t always feel respected but then it would cause my husband to feel unloved because of my reaction so for us it was opposite but the book really did give good inspiration (nevertheless) for what needed to change!! God has been glorified!!
