We’re Baaaack

After more than two years of being “locked out” of jail ministry, we were finally able to resume our thrice weekly programs on August 13th.

The population of the jail has been drastically reduced in the ensuing years (I may write more on this later). Instead of having 20-30 ladies for church last week, my partner, Penny, and I only had 5 in attendance. But this did not hamper our joy.

I revel in serving with Penny because we alternate delivering the message, offering prayer, and leading worship.

The message was simple:

  • God is Good
  • He is Worthy
  • We are Blessed

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 NIV

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.- Matthew 6:24-28 NIV

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
     He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
     he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever. – Psalm 23 NIV

Each week we are given seven chances to make a fresh start. Remember to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide your daily decisions.

Since I didn’t know if our CD player was still operational, I chose a few simple songs that helped us focus on Jesus.

  • Jesus Loves Me
  • Deep & Wide
  • Jesus Loves the Little Children

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45 NIV

  1. So glad the jail ministry is back in action
    And for some reason when I read your bio a while back – I thought of you as reaching out to men! Ha!
    Well it makes sense that you and Penny would minister to women!
    And I pray in Jesus name that it goes well and that no weapon formed against y’all will prosper

  2. Also -thanks for the verses and encouragement
    And one of them is a verse I keep hearing this summer
    – and even heard it in a Jamie Smith song!
    You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
    You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

  3. What a blessed opportunity to point others to Christ. Whether it’s 20-30 or 5 ladies to minister to, each individual’s faith and salvation is of great importance!! ….He leaves the 99 to find the 1.
    ❤️❤️❤️great post Barb!
