On the Spur of the Moment

The prompt for this week’s Five Minute Friday is SPONTANEOUS.  I will admit that I had trouble deciding which way to go with it. So here goes…

spontaneous

[ spon-tey-nee-uhs ]

adjective

  • coming or resulting from a natural impulse or tendency; without effort or premeditation; natural and unconstrained; unplanned:a spontaneous burst of applause.
  • (of a person) given to acting upon sudden impulses.
  • (of natural phenomena) arising from internal forces or causes; independent of external agencies; self-acting.
  • growing naturally or without cultivation, as plants and fruits; indigenous.
  • produced by natural process.

SYNONYMS FOR spontaneous

You may wonder where I am going with this. I did too for a minute or two 😏.

BUT

Then it came to me. What is something spontaneous that I can do EVERY day.  How can it be spontaneous if I plan to do it every day?  Good question, right?

For the last couple of years, I have been writing down at least one thing I am thankful for every day (attitude-of-gratitude 2020 WOTY).  This year my focus has been on encouraging others as often as possible.

So I’m going to double down in spontaneous encouragement and look for ways to do at least one random act kindness a day.  I covet your prayers as I seek to do His will.

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. – Matthew 7:12 NIV

  1. A random act of kindness
    delivered every day
    can save a soul from blindness,
    and show a lighted way
    that gives hope to a weary heart,
    and soothing balm to bring back strength
    that re-inspires taking part
    in this Dance of God at length.
    Hark! The music carries on,
    something you can truly feel;
    let the reticence be gone,
    join in the Lord’s Virginia Reel,
    making room for a new dancer
    who in your kindness found an answer.

  2. I was not planning to do this prompt. I saw it and deleted the email. I haven’t had time to write a post for FMFs for a few weeks and didn’t have time last Friday either. BUT GOD. He who began a new work in me is faithful to complete it. I ended up doing my post on Wednesday and it is a similar topic, “Spontaneous Gratitude.” I love the idea of spontaneous encouragement to others!! I pray the Lord blesses you as you bless others.
