To live the life He had planned

To get through where I am now, you’ve got to have a level of pride that goes way past mere arrogance.
I know that it is not done thing
to make it all ’bout brilliant me,
but there’s a truth I’ve gotta bring,
that I’m the best you’ll ever see.
Cancer has me on the ropes,
and each day is really grim,
but dying’s not the death of hopes,
and although odds are really slim
I rise like Phoenix from the ashes
of the flames of pain at night,
and smile through the daytime lashes
when a lesser man just might
think this his final inning,
but my fight is just beginning.
