“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.” – Luke 8:16-18 NIV
How do you approach Five Minute Friday (or other prompt-based writing challenge)? Do you just start writing & see where it goes? Do you make an outline? Or perhaps you choose a scripture passage as the anchor of your post?
To be honest I have used all of these methods. Sometimes I struggle to write a coherent sentence BUT at other times the posts seem to write themselves.
My first thought this morning was, “I desire to be hidden in Christ so that others see Him in everything I do”.
When my spouse looks at me, will he see a godly wife or a selfish woman?
When I interact with my students & coworkers will they see a kind, patient & loving teacher or a crazy, stressed out & cranky lady?
Will I be Christlike in traffic or at the store?
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. – Colossians 3:1-4 NIV

This question stopped me in my tracks, Barb, “When my spouse looks at me, will he see a godly wife or a selfish woman?” FMF#5

From my own bizarro perch,
being Christlike is a trip,
’cause now when I go to church,
I’m allowed to take a whip.
Yeah, just kidding, well, of course,
’cause I cannot go no more;
riding cancer’s rowdy horse,
I don’t go far beyond my door,
and so the church must come to me
through their YouTube channel,
and it’s nice that I can see
courtesy their A/V panel
the folks who do not have to hide
from the bullwhip by my side.

It is my prayer each day that people would see Jesus in me. I felt kind of silly for a while because, retired, I hardly have personal contact with anyone. My husband even does all the shopping. So, other than church, I live a “sheltered” life. Then I realized the other part of this that you mention. It is perhaps harder than those outside the family. Will my husband see Jesus in me today?

Thanks Barbara. What a beautiful and honest meditation. What will others see today? I am glad to have read this question in the morning before anyone has seen me yet, than at evening when others may be sorry that they passed my way.

I often wonder how other truly see me… do they see the person doing stuff cause I give a rip about them, or do they just see me as busy? I dunno sometimes…. Fmf16

I consider myself new to the FMF community, but I tend to write off a scripture that comes to mind after the prompt is given. I love the opportunity to be creative with these though. Thank you for sharing these scriptures. Less of me and more of Him! FMF19

Amen and amen, Barb. It is my longing that everyone I encounter would see Jesus in me! He’s had to work on that over the years, of course. I find myself especially tested when local taxi drivers want to charge me more than what the standard price is, because of the color of my skin. He’s made a lot of progress in me but I’m still in process for sure. Holy Spirit, keep making me more like Jesus!
