I often have a song running through my head that is triggered by a word or phrase uttered in conversation or via a written message. Today is one of those days.
The Five Minute Friday prompt for today is SUNSHINE. Instantly the 1983 song by Katrina & the Waves, Walking on Sunshine turned into an earworm and brought a smile to my face.
Spring is the time for renewal.
Spring is the time for love to be reborn in all of us after a L-O-N-G winter.
I hope this video leaves you “walking on sunshine” too.
Walking on Sunshine
Oh!
Ohhhh, yeeeh
I used to think maybe you loved me now baby I’m sure
And I just can’t wait till the day when you knock on my door
Now everytime I go for the mailbox, gotta hold myself down
‘Cause I just can’t wait till you write me you’re coming around
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, woooah
I’m walking on sunshine, woooah
And don’t it feel good!
Hey, alright now
And don’t it feel good!
Hey yeah
I used to think maybe you loved me, now I know that it’s true
And I don’t want to spend my whole life, just waiting for you
Now I don’t want u back for the weekend
Not back for a day, no no no
I said baby I just want you back and I want you to stay
Woah yeah!
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, woooah
I’m walking on sunshine, woooah
And don’t it feel good!!
Hey, alright now
And don’t it feel good!!
Yeah, oh yeah
And don’t it feel good!!
Walking on sunshine
Walking on sunshine
I feel alive, I feel the love, I feel the love that’s really real
I feel alive, I feel the love, I feel the love that’s really real
I’m on sunshine baby oh, oh yeah
I’m on sunshine baby oh
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, woooah
And don’t it feel good
Hey, alright now
And don’t it feel good
I’ll say it, say it, say it again now
And don’t it feel good!!
Ohhhh, yeahhhh
And don’t it feel good
Now don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it feel good
I’ll say it, say it, say it again now
And don’t feel good
Now don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it, don’t it feel good
Tell me, tell me, tell me again now
And don’t it feel good
Ohhhh, yeahhhh
And don’t it feel good
Oh don’t it feel good, don’t it feel good
Now don’t it feel good?
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah (Don’t it feel good)

That happens with me too, often at a spirit’s urging! This morning it was “all my life’s in books, written pages. Live and learn from fools and from sages…” Dream on.

I used to walk on sunshine,
but now my boots are on the ground,
and the suck is truly mine,
but in embracing it I’ve found
a hard truth that does not embitter,
and warm, not cold, reality.
I am not just roadside litter,
but a soul pursuing destiny.
Yes, there have been brighter days,
but at end they led to naught,
and in this dim dark cancer’d maze
I find the gifts that God has brought
to let me face it, not to yield,
and stand tall on this battlefield.

I loved your “earworm”: I had never heard of it before…. only a bug in your ear. I like the worm better because it transforms into a butterfly when we hear God’s Word.
Bless you dear Barbara.

Such enthusiasm. I like the way she sings in the gray cloudy day and then eventually the sun comes out. Great metaphor.

this is one of my favorite songs from “back in the day” and one of the first ones I thought of for the prompt as well. I wound up choosing a different song to include with my post, but this one has also been running through my head all day! Visiting from FMF#8

I often wake up with a song or lines from a song and I know the Lord is trying to tell me something. I didn’t know the words to this song, only ever heard the chorus because we have a rather annoying toy plant that sings it 😉 Thanks for sharing. Kath, your FMF neighbour at #5 this week.

I sing this song to my kids all the time! We even put it on our Friday afternoon drive-home playlist. (Though I prefer to sing “and donuts feel good” just to irritate them a little. Because it opens up all kinds of fun existential questions. Do the donuts feel good about being donuts? Does the singer feel good about eating donuts? Are the donuts fun to squeeze? 😉
