New Experiences

Can I just say that Lisa is amazing!! She consistently comes up with new ways for us to live with and experience our One Word (WOTY). If you are interested, check out the most recent link-up.

You’ve made it almost two months with your One Word. If your energy is slipping to stay engaged, plan new ways to connect with your word over the next few weeks. Here are some ideas you might try.

SOMETHING TO HEAR
1. Listen for a song (or create your own?) with your One Word in the title or lyrics. Add it to a playlist or print out the lyrics. Or learn to play it on an instrument or sing it to yourself.

SOMETHING TO SAY
 2. Find a poem, a quote, a scripture, a book excerpt, etc., about your word. Read it aloud to yourself. Perhaps use your phone to record yourself reading it and listen to it once a day for a week.

SOMETHING TO SEE
3. Gather a couple of new visuals of your word. Place these where you’ll see them often. Or maybe challenge yourself for a month to take a photo a day of something that reminds you of your word.  The more you use your senses to interact with your word, the more it will become part of who you are.

WHAT DO I HEAR?

The word RENEWAL is not in the hymn Amazing Grace but it is about renewal.

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
  That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
  Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
  And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
  The hour I first believed!

The Lord hath promised good to me,
  His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
  As long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
  Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
  Than when we first begun.

WHAT DO I SAY?

I did a quick Google search for “renewal quotes”.  Not surprisingly, there are 100s (probably 1000s). It took a while but I found the perfect quote to explain spiritual renewal. You see,  it’s only in our brokenness that we can experience the renewal that our Creator is waiting to bestow on us.

“God uses broken things. It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. It is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever.” — Vance Havner

WHAT DO I SEE?

What a gift to “see” answers to BIG prayers that were prayed on behalf of others.  I firmly believe that intercessory prayer should be lavished on others.

  1. Great post, Barb. I’ve been thinking a lot about renewal lately and I love the quote you chose. Brokenness often precedes renewal and that quote is so inspiring.
