The Presence of Jesus: The Early Church’s Forgotten Path to Spiritual Growth by Joseph Clampitt PhD [REVIEW]

SYNOPSIS

For many Christians, faith has been reduced to a spiritual to-do list:

– You must pray,
– read your Bible,
– go to church,
– care for the poor,
– sell your possessions,
– forgive your enemies,
– confess your sin,
– and do it all with a smile.

If you are a pastor or church leader, your list also includes:

– preach,
– teach,
– lead worship,
– visit the sick,
– disciple other Christians,
– and plan church events.

These lists are a recipe for exhaustion, resentment, and burnout.
But what if there was another way to live the Christian life?

Jesus died a very public death. Yet early Christians had unshakable conviction that He was alive and present. They did not think of Jesus as a stranger they would meet in heaven someday. They were already having frequent, two-way conversations with Him in the Spirit. Through these conversations, they experienced

– Peace and joy instead of anxiety
– Unshakable hope
– Victory over sin and addiction
– A deep sense of being loved by God
– Clarity for making important life decisions

Jesus is still present today, but tragically, many Christians don’t experience him as being a real person. This is why prayer often feels like a burden. If deep down I believe I’m just talking to myself or an empty room, what’s the point of praying?

But wait… didn’t God stop speaking to people after the Bible was written? After all, Jesus left Earth and ascended to heaven, right?

The Presence of Jesus answers these questions and more:

1. How do I tell the difference between Jesus’ voice, Satan’s, and something weird I ate for breakfast?
2. How do I listen for God’s voice? Is it audible?
3. How do I interpret dreams and visions?
4. What can human relationships teach me about communication with God?
5. What are the spiritual gifts in the Bible, and how can I use them?
6. In what ways do modern forms of church actually obscure Jesus’ voice?

However, this is not a theology book. The Presence of Jesus is an allegory based on the author’s real-life spiritual journey. Each life-changing Biblical truth unfolds naturally within the story.

REVIEW

This book is a captivating combination of fact & fiction that are so skillfully intertwined that I sometimes had to pause and wonder what Paul really would think of our 21st Century world.

If you like stories that incorporate time travel…

OR

If you like peaking inside the relationships of 1st Century saints…

OR

If you like a good faith based allegory…

OR

If you like stories of healing and redemption..

Then this book is for you!

I received this book free from the author, publisher, or other source. My only obligation is to provide a fair and honest review.

  1. Hi Barb, this is Joseph, the author of this book. I’m grateful for your kind words. In fact, I would like to use a condensed version of your review in the book description. If you have no objections, I plan to add the following at the top of the blurb:

“A captivating combination of fact and fiction that are so skillfully intertwined…If you like a good faith based allegory, or if you like stories of healing and redemption, then this book is for you!” – Barb Hegreberg

I’m still playing around with different blurbs for the book, and haven’t found one I truly love yet. But I think your quote would be a great way to orient readers to the book.

    Thank you!
    Joseph
