Farewell to Renewal?

The final One Word 2024 Challenge has been issued by Lisa Notes.

So, here goes…

Take a moment to think about the following questions about RENEWAL:

Did “renewal” stay relevant? Why or why not?

I would say that I am still in need of renewal in many areas of my life. Said another way, 2024 has been a roller coaster ride with amazingly-high-heights and deep-dark-tunnel-lows. But through it all, God has been with me.

How often did I notice “renewal” this year, and where?

Most of the renewal in my life has been through personal relationships. Sadly, some in my life are ending the year on a low note due to relational or employment issues. My prayer is for God to intervene in those situations and bring about the healing that only He can give.

Will you join me in praying for these situations?

Did “renewal” meet my expectations? Why or why not?

Because God gives me my word each year, I try not to have any expectations beyond growing in my faith. My faith was stretched this year due to some legal struggles and the relationships that I mentioned above.

Did “renewal” surprise me? How?

I don’t recall any significant surprises involving renewal.

How did I grow because of “renewal”?

My growth this year was mostly a renewed sense of self-confidence. This self-confidence manifested itself in the professional and scholarly parts of my life.

Am I glad I chose “renewal”? Why or why not?

I always appreciate the path that God chooses for me. I admit that the struggles of this year have left me feeling uncertain. My path to renewal may be a bit incomplete.

Would I recommend “renewal” to someone else? Why?

My only recommendation is to trust God to give you a new word (or phrase) each year and be obedient to where it leads.

How many stars would I give “renewal”?

I give my 2024 journey 4-stars because the journey seems unfinished -⭐⭐⭐⭐

My WOTY progress has been:

  • Attitude of Gratitude – 2020
  • Abide – 2021
  • Encouragement – 2022
  • Teach/Learn – 2023
  • Renewal – 2024

I am leaning toward FLEXIBLE as my 2025 Word. What do you think?

  1. It sounds like Renewal was a pivotal word for a challenging year, Barb. And you make me wonder…do we ever finish the journey with our words at the end of the year? Maybe not. I think Flexible is a fantastic choice for 2025 (or any year!).

  2. Hi Barbara,

We’re sitting next to each other at Lisa’s WOTY linky this month. I believe God gives me my WOTY too, so it has been an interesting journey since adopting this practice but oh so rewarding.

I love how God continued His work of Renewal in you this year my friend (as He does with each of us).

It will be interesting to see where 2025 Flexible takes you in the Lord (or conversely where the Lord takes you with Flexibility).

    Blessings, Jennifer

  3. Barb, I enjoyed reading your answers to Lisa’s questions. I’m sorry for the struggles that have left you feeling uncertain but was interested to see that your main area of growth was a renewed sense of self-confidence. That’s wonderful, and I hope it continues through 2025!
