Marching into Flexibility

Another month has flown by, meaning it is time to reflect on my 2025 One Word journey to flexibility once again.

<><><><><><><><>

Your One Word has more depth than you might think—let’s approach it from 3 different angles this month! This simple yet powerful exercise can give you fresh insight into your word so it can continue shaping your year.

🔎 Step 1: DEFINE IT  — Look up your word in the dictionary. Does it have multiple meanings? Which one resonates most for your use this year? Are there meanings you hadn’t considered before?

🟢 Step 2: SAME AS  — Find some synonyms for your word. If you had to pick a backup word from this list, which would you choose? Why?

❌ Step 3: OPPOSITE OF  — Now, look up antonyms. Sometimes, understanding what your word isn’t can help you understand what it is. What stands out to you?

So here goes… (Thank you, dictionary.com)

But what does it really mean???

Based on the definitions, synonyms, and antonyms above, am I more flexible now than I was three months ago?

As I reflect on the opportunities to be flexible that God has placed in my path, I realize that, more often than not, I have chosen flexibility. Where I normally would have chosen to say “No”, or “Not right now,” I have said “Yes,” or “Sure, why not?”. I have jumped right in instead of walking the other way. I have tried new recipes and made new friends. I am looking toward a new career after graduation. Whether this is flexibility or simply exploring new opportunities, I’m not sure yet.

I found this prayer on the Character Council website (it seems fitting, doesn’t it?):

Dear Jesus,

We praise you for your goodness and mercy and thank you for the example of Flexibility in your life. You tailored your message so Your Truth could be understood by who you were teaching. Guide us to be patient and flexible when plans change and not be stubborn. Remind us to accept the things we cannot change and to be open to new and different experiences. Teach us to learn from our mistakes and to anticipate and prepare for change. Help us to act in all things in harmony with the will of the Father.

Amen.

  1. Good post, Barb! There’s a lot to learn here. Thank you. Sometimes life demands adjusting on the fly. We certainly have to adjust to the Lord’s leading and teaching to be good disciples which calls for flexibility. Be Blessed

  2. I love seeing how your word is already shaping your choices—saying yes, stepping into new things. That prayer was beautiful too.

My word this year is Abide—a bit quieter, but it’s stretching me in deep ways. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you visit my March post!
