Exploring Flexiblity Through Poetry and Prayer

You don’t have to be a poet—or even a word nerd—to join this month’s One Word adventure!

For April, Lisa is inviting you to engage with your One Word in a fresh and creative way: through poetry or blessing. Whether you unearth a favorite line that already speaks to your word or try your hand at writing your own, the goal is to reflect, not to perfect.

TRY A POEM

Look for poems that include your word—or create your own. Go classic with a haiku or an acrostic, or get a little wild with blackout poetry or free verse.

Doesn’t this poem mirror the Christian faith?

Stay grounded ==> No matter what’s happening in and around your life, stay connected to Christ.

Connect to your roots ==> Don’t stray from the truth your Creator has planted in your soul.

Turn over a new leaf ==> Be ready for changes coming your way.

Bend before you break ==> Be flexible when making plans because His plans are ALWAYS better than ours.

Enjoy your unique natural beauty ==> We are all beautiful in the sight of God.  If you’re having trouble seeing it, look at yourself and others through Jesus-colored lenses.

Keep growing ==> There’s always more to learn and share with one another.

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. – Psalms 1:1-3 NASB1995

WRITE A BLESSING

Write a short blessing, prayer, or note of gratitude that includes your word. You could create something original or adapt a passage from a sacred text or a favorite book that resonates with your journey.

Father God,

I am genuinely grateful for the lessons in flexibility You have been pouring into my life. Some days that flexibility looks like unfathomable patience. At other times it looks like setting aside my own selfishness in favor of the will of another. But the most surprising lesson has been in showing love to those who seem to find joy in bringing strife into my world.

Loving You means loving others no matter what!

AMEN

  1. I’ve been thinking a lot about trees lately too regarding my own word. Glad to see the same metaphor pop up here for your Flexible. Trees are quite “flexible” in their adaption to many words. 🙂

A beautiful prayer. How amazing when you’re able to show love to those showing strife!
