On May 17th, I graduated with my degree in Early Childhood Education from McHenry County College. Over the last two and a half years, I have gained much insight into what it means to be a good great educator. Besides being caring and compassionate, a teacher must be FLEXIBLE.
I believe it is my job to treat every child as an individual who is worthy of my time and attention. When parents send their children to school, they trust the teacher(s) with the most precious things in their lives. In addition, I realize that for a child to learn from me, we must build a relationship based on trust and respect. I work every day to be worthy of that trust.
Children with a safe place to live and play, access to healthy food and medical care, adequate rest and exercise, and clothing appropriate for the weather are better prepared to learn than those lacking in these areas. By building relationships with the children in my care, I am more in tune when something seems off, thereby offering the needed educational support or family resources in a timely and respectful manner.
Children learn best via play-based, multi-sensory activities. To ensure the children’s developmentally appropriate educational needs are being met, a well-designed classroom should be utilized.
