Stay Focused: One Word Challenge for 2026

Lisa Notes has issued the first One-Word challenge for 2026
Hi friend—I’m so glad you’re here to start our One Word 2026 journey together.

Each month, I’ll share a few no-pressure ways to notice and practice your word. Take what works for you. Skip what doesn’t.

Here are a few easy ways to begin this month:
 1. What does your word look like to you?
Keep it simple:
Snap a photo of something that reminds you of your word. Play with writing or typing your word in different fonts. Doodle images of your word in a notebook
(If you want to go bigger—make a vision board! But small counts, too.)

 2. Where can you see your word?
Place your word somewhere obvious as a reminder:
As your phone lock screen. In a planner or on a calendar. As a sticky note on a bathroom mirror or desk. Also, notice: Where has your word already shown up this month?

 3. Why this word?
You don’t need a full essay. Just answer one question:
Why this word, this year? Even better: Share a sentence or two of your answer with someone else. Community has a way of multiplying insights.

BONUS:
If you want a little more structure, I’ve created this simple 2-page worksheet to help clarify your word.
I use it every year—and I love looking back at old ones.

 January Linkup Details
Opens: Monday, January 26 at 4 AM CST
Closes: Monday, February 9 at midnight CST
Where: LisaNotes.com

Post any blog posts you’ve written about your one word so far. Not a blogger? Leave a comment instead—your words matter. Visit a few posts if you can; encouragement ripples outward.
I’ll also be sharing every link from the linkup in our One Word Facebook group throughout the month—another easy and valuable way to stay connected to your word and to each other.

Remember: You don’t have to do this alone. One Word is richer when we learn from each other.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

I know this image is a little tongue-in-cheek, but sometimes I need the strong, direct approach instead of hints and beating around the bush.

For you were as sheep going astray, but now have been returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls. – 1 Peter 2:25 (MEV)

WHERE HAVE I SEEN IT?

I have published the following:

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Trusting God’s Guidance: A Clear Horizon #FMF

Time to Mend #FMF

Rainer Bantau, who blogs at The Devotional Guy, has also chosen “STAY” as his 2026 WOTY. I look forward to comparing our journeys as we learn from God and each other.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. – Proverbs 27:17 NASB

WHY STAY?

“…Every year, the process is similar. Throughout the year, I make note of possible words for the next year. Then I came across the word “stay,” and God impressed upon me that I have been a bit all over the place and I need to relearn how to stay in communication with Him.”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB

  1. I’ve been thinking about Stay myself in terms of staying present in this moment. My mind can wander to ruminating in the past or fast-forwarding to planning for the future (which sometimes IS necessary!), but for the most part I want to stay more here in this moment with the people in the room. I look forward to hearing how Stay plays out in your life over the year. Great word!
