Balancing Roles as a Childcare Nurturer #FMF

The Five Minute Friday prompt for the week is NURTURE

As the Assistant Director of a childcare center, I can wear many hats each day:

  • Receptionist
  • Doorman
  • Playground attendant
  • Cook
  • Order processer
  • Event planner
  • Office manager
  • Accounts receivable
  • File clerk
  • Graphic designer
  • Dishwasher
  • Nurse
  • Food delivery
  • Custodian
  • Mail clerk
  • Therapist
  • Story teller
  • Diaper Changer

While all of these jobs are important, my most important job is that of a NURTURER. As I say this, I am preparing for a week where my nurturing skills will be tested. My boss is taking a well-deserved vacation, which means 12-hour days and lots of nurturing opportunities are on the horizon.

The center where I work is in a richly diverse community representing families of different faiths, races, and socioeconomic statuses. Making sure each and every person in the center feels safe and respected is at the heart of what I do. That being said, I am a bit nervous about being able to meet the needs of everyone who depends on me. I know there will be behavioral issues, medical concerns, and numerous family problems that will need to be addressed this week. Each will need to be handled with lovingkindness so that my relationship with each staff member, child, and family is stronger at the end of the week than it was at the beginning.

My desire for the week is to stay true to my commitment to my employer while STAYing true to all that God is asking of me. I would appreciate your prayers for the week ahead.

  6. pray fo me too please, I just need a normal week where I haven’t literally fallen on my face or contracted fod poisoning! I want a nice, boring week and maybe I can get something done. I want to do more too in a service capacity, but I have to be patient because I’m not healthy yet, and I had all that happen to me and we just moved here three weeks ago. Whew. 🙏
