The Five Minute Friday writing prompt for this week is: POLITE
<><><><><><><><><><>
To be perfectly honest, when I saw this week’s prompt, I almost decided to skip it. My first thought was to write about “polite society,” but I know that it would quickly spiral into a “politically correct” rant. However, God kept reminding me that He has something to say through me. So here goes…
When I searched, “What does the Bible say about being polite”? I was surprised at how many scripture references popped up. Afterall, politeness is another word for kindness, and we know how often Jesus speaks of being kind and giving grace to others.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. – Ephesians 4:29 ESV
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. – Matthew 7:12 ESV
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. – Phillipians 2:3 ESV
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace – 1 Peter 4:10 ESV
Said another way, being polite about far more than good table manners and not using coarse language. It is about treating others in such a way that they see Jesus in us.

Treating others the way Jesus treats us! And in polite society, using the correct fork while eating your salad!

So interesting that there are so many verses about politeness in the God’s word. Thanks for pointing that out…and including some of them. Great way to approach the prompt!
