I must admit that World War II historical fiction is currently my favorite genre. Author Anna Stuart has written three series about this time period, as well as several standalones.
Stuart’s work is not for the faint of heart. As you can imagine, the subject matter requires a certain amount of brutal honesty that can at times be quite uncomfortable to read. That being said, I have learned more about WWII in the last few years than I ever learned in school. I have read all of the books in the list below, except The Children on the Train, because it will not be published until later this year. If asked, I could not choose a favorite.
Women of War
- The Midwife of Auschwitz (2022)
- The Midwife of Berlin (2023)
- The War Orphan (2024)
- The Secret Message (2024) (also published as The Resistance Sisters)
- The Last Baby in Auschwitz (2026)
- The Children on the Train (August 2026}
The Bletchley Park Girls
- The Bletchley Girls (2022)
- Code Name Elodie (2023)
Inspirational WWII Stories
- The English Wife (2025)
- The President’s Wife (2025)
Standalone Novels
- The Berlin Zookeeper (2021)
- The Secret Diary (2021)
- A Letter From Pearl Harbor (2021)
