⭐⭐⭐Happy 250th Independence Day ⭐⭐⭐

Over the last few days, I have read/seen many things about America’s 250th Birthday. I know for many of you, a country that is only 250 years old is a mere infant. But to me, it is my home, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

It feels like only yesterday that we were celebrating the bicentennial in 1976. Every little girl had a Holly Hobby doll and wanted to dress like Laura Ingalls Wilder. At school, we learned to quilt and use a butter churn.

It seems unreal that I can trace my family line back to the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock. Whereas my husband is only the second generation of his family born here.

Whether you like his politics or not, this song is still a classic.

This song always hits me in the feels.

AND FINALLY — My children and the combined choirs of Crystal Lake South High School singing The National Anthem (aka The Star Spangled Banner) at a Chicago White Sox Game in 2014. The quality is not great, but the memory of that night will be with me forever.

  1. I was just a toddler in 1976 but I definitely had a Holly Hobby doll and wanted to dress like Laura Ingalls Wilder! Our country is still just a toddler like I was 50 years ago. It amazes me how long yet how short 250 years is in a nation’s history. I have always been fascinated by Americans who have descended from the Pilgrims. I am the third generation on my father’s side and the fourth on my mother’s side to be born in the U.S. so most of my history is in Northern Europe instead of here. But I’m here to stay…an all American girl since birth! Happy Independence Day!

  6. My family took a vacation to Tumcumcarri NM where we celebrated the 4th for 1976. Their parade consisted of an old woman on a lawn chair in the back of a pickup, That was it. We asked and found out it was her birthday. Now I look back and love it. Then as a young kid I wass expecting more.

  7. I was only 6 in 1976, I don’t really remember it, but my wife told me she remembered it, she was 10 going on 11. It must have been something to experience.
    I am so grateful to see the 250th anniversary of our great country’s Independence.
    We are so blessed.
