When God Interrupts Me

13-06-30-thebeatitudelife-v2-1024x576All week I was planning on doing a message on Zaccheus (Luke 19:1-10) when I went to the McHenry County Jail today.  As a matter of fact, I have had this message rolling around in my head for a few months now.  BUT,  when I woke up this morning, God interrupted my plan and showed me that He wanted me to speak on the Matthew 5:1-12.  This passage is better known as the beatitudes.

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (NKJV)

My partner for the day was Gio, an amazing godly woman who is bi-lingual and well respected by the ladies.  The group was large (30+) so we split up the group for the teaching time.  Gio took all the non-English speakers and I had the rest.  God had truly prepared the hearts of these ladies before we arrived.  We had a very open and honest discussion about what it means to live out each of these “attitudes” in our daily lives, and how we can reach out to our Heavenly Father when we feel like we are lacking in any of these areas.

Father God,

Thank you for using me to speak your truth into the lives of the ladies at McHenry County Jail.   I pray that each of them is able to be more blessed in your sight because of the lessons we learned today.   I pray each of their hearts will be open to hearing more of your truth and that they will embrace it as their own.
