A Meal That Changed Everything

Imagine if you will, what it was like to be in attendance at the Last Supper. I imagine soft lighting & the mouthwatering smells of the familiar Passover meal. If you have ever been to Seder you will understand what I mean. But then some unusual things happened:

  • Before the meal Jesus took off his cloak & washed the feet of the disciples (John 13:1-17).
  • Jesus explained what was about to happen (Matthew 26:21-25 & 26:31-35)
  • Jesus used communion to further explain what was to come and how the events should be remembered (Matthew 26:26-29)

Following the meal, Jesus spent a long night in the Garden of Gethsemane praying about His coming crucifixion. The prayers were so intense that Jesus actually sweat blood.

In our day, Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, [and serves] as a commemoration of the Last Supper. (Oxford Distionary).
