(Survey Responses Part 1)
In June I put out a survey on my blog and on Facebook. Today I will begin to use those responses and share my thoughts with you as well.

The first group of questions was about radio station pledge drives. I was VERY surprised that 50% of you have never experienced such an event. Of the remaining respondents 37% make a one-time gift, 37% pledge to pray for the ministry & 25% change the station until the pledge drive is over. At least 25% thought that pledge drives are annoying.
Pledge drives absolutely make me crazy. I put on the radio to listen to music not to spend an hour listening to endless chatter about giving your best gift. Don’t get me wrong I understand why they do them but there has to be a better way. I have also noticed that there is amazing signal strength during a pledge drive but once it’s over the station becomes staticky & the signal is weak.

The second group of questions was about the controversy around Hillsong Worship, Hillsong United & Bethel Music. In a nutshell both have been accused of preaching a watered down gospel and having a cult-like atmosphere to keep their “followers”. Most respondents were not even aware of the controversy that has surrounded these groups for the last few years.
I urge you to pay attention to the music that you and your family listen to. It can be very easy to get caught up in a catchy tune and ignore the meaning of the words. It is also important to remember that when you use music in your church the artists can get royalties from your use of the song. Be careful where you spend you time & money. You don’t want to inadvertently support a cause or ministry that you are opposed to.

The third group of questions was about what you read. Not surprisingly, most respondents are readers of blogs & other online content. After that you like to read history, Christian self-help books & Christian fiction. One word of caution, beware of authors who are pushing their own agenda or are more fluff than substance. It can be good to read opposing viewpoints but if you are not firm in your beliefs you can be lead astray.
Next I will work on these questions:
— Are there any topics that you would like me to write about in my blog?
— Is there anything you want to know about me?
Stay tuned. 😀
Very interesting! I have noted that signal strength issue with the pledge drives before myself. Maddening! As to what we listen to and what we read, I agree it is so important what we allow into ourselves. The first thing I check is if something is Biblically sound.

It’s so important to check and double check everything that we allow into our home including radio, TV, books, video games ….

Hi, Barb! Pledge drives are an automatic shut off for me! I check everything I can about who I listen to and read. When applicable I check the author’s sources to see if their sources are sound. Thanks for sharing this!

it scares me sometimes when people who thought had their head on straight fall for the latest lies of the evil one.
