Well I did it! I signed up for and completed my first ever virtual 5k on Sunday, November 22nd. Because the “race” was virtual, participants were able to complete it on their own schedule (11/22 – 11/29).
Besides Gobbles Free Range 5k, I also participated in the Toucan Challenge. All we had to do was run with canned goods in our hands, record the weight & donate the food to our local food pantry. I usually “run” with 3lb hand weights so I made sure my contribution weighed at lest 6lbs.
Also during this time, my local gym was running their annual Turkey Burn. For every 5 visits members earned a turkey feather, on the 10th visit there was an additional bonus of a t-shirt. At the end of the month all of the feathers were put into a drawing for 1 of 3 – $100 gift certificates to be used on additional amenities.
The coolest part was that I was able to go the “distance” in this 5k with people from all over the country including my friend Cheryl, my sister Maria, my Dad & his wife Tina(& Kenzie), my sister Laura (with her kids and the dog) as well as some people from my bariatic support groups.

Proceeds from the event were donated to No Kid Hungry it is a “national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world.” Their focus right now is familes who have been impacted by COVID-19.
