Putting an X Through Anxiety: Breaking Free from the Grip of Worry & Stress by Louie Giglio [REVIEW]

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Christian book on anxiety. As a matter of fact, I don’t recall reading any books that focused entirely on ridding anxiety from the life of a believer.

Putting an X Through Anxiety: Breaking Free from the Grip of Worry & Stress is the perfect little devotional. In it, Louie Giglio gives practical advice on how to deal with even the most crippling anxiety attack from a spiritual perspective. I appreciate that he encourages the reader to seek medical help when needed (including taking prescriptions). Too many times I’ve heard well-meaning Christians tell people that if they prayed more…read their Bible more…tithed more their anxiety would disappear. Yes, sometimes we just need more “Jesus-Time” but there can also be real medical problems that need to be managed with medication & therapy.

  1. When I was in seminary, I used to drive down to the campus of Baylor University to attend a weekly worship service led by Louie Giglio at the 7th and James Baptist Church. It was an amazing experience. I will look for this book. Thank you!

  2. Thank you for this recommendation, Barbara!! As some who suffers from chronic anxiety (my whole life), I am always looking for new resources.

And I agree, sometimes there is a chemical component and medicine can ease the suffering substantially (like in my case!) I waited decades to try medicine, and I wish I hadn’t waited so long.
