Grace is getting a gift that I could never earn.
Mercy is not getting the punishment that I surely deserve.
As I pondered these two words today, one thought kept coming to my mind. “What if God asked me to choose between grace & mercy?”
How in the world could I ever decide? I mean really?!? When I look back on my life & consider all the times that God has intervened on my behalf it can be hard to distinguish between His GRACE & MERCY.
I can never be good enough to DESERVE His GRACE. On the flip side, no sin, no matter how great, is outside of God’s ability to show MERCY. I feel blessed beyond measure to have been the recipient of Christ’s GRACE & MERCY more times than I can count & most assuredly more times than I DESERVE.
Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need. – Hebrews 4:16 NASB
Consider the lyrics of the song from Maranatha Music (1999)
I Love Your Grace
I love Your Grace, I love Your Mercy
I love the way You help me when I call
I love Your Truth, I love the power of Your Name
But you know I love Your presence most of all
My soul takes refuge in the shadow of Your wings
Close to You is where I want to be
You are my Strength, You are my God
You are my King
And all I want is what You want for me
I love Your Grace, I love Your Mercy
I love the way You help me when I call
I love Your Truth, I love the power of Your Name
But you know I love Your presence most of all
My soul takes refuge in the shadow of Your wings
Close to You is where I want to be
You are my Strength, You are my God
You are my King
And all I want is what You want for me
‘Cuz I love Your Grace, I love Your Mercy
I love the way You help me when I call
I love Your Truth, I love the power of Your Name
But you know I love Your presence most of all
But you know I love Your presence most of all
But you know I love Your presence most of all

I am definitely one grace-dependent woman, and I am ever grateful when I get to be a conduit for the grace I have received.

Where would we be without His grace and mercy? Grateful for the inspiration to meditate on this. And I love that song!
