It seems that every stage of life has it’s own PURPOSE.
Infants and toddlers spend every waking moment learning about the world around them.
Then there are the years of the 3 R’s – Readin’, Ritin’ & ‘Rithmatic.
After that comes college, trade school or other training to become an adult.
Not to mention finding your mate, buying a home, and raising a family.
OR
Remaining single.
But then…the nest is empty and many of us are left wondering what we are supposed to do when our PURPOSE has flown the coop.
Consider this….none of the things that I listed above are your true PURPOSE. Yes they are part of your life but your true purpose is to be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. When we ABIDE in Him, everything else is just icing on the cake.
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: – Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV
Amen… Abiding in the vine.

Amen, Barbara. Making anything besides Christ your purpose is a recipe for disillusionment.

Absolutely….but I do know the sense of loss when the main thing we were doing is no longer the main thing!!!!

Well said Barb. What matters most is our relationship with Him.

You had me at cake! And icing! My purpose if to remain in intimate relationship with Jesus, and share Him with absolutely everyone I can! I am so grateful that He has included me in His Work for His Kingdom.

Perfect timing with this. My devotional time this morning was all about abiding in Him. What a joy to know that is what our purpose is.

This post recenters us. Thanks, Barb. No matter our secondary purposes, you’re right that our true central focus is to follow Jesus.

Your post reminds me of a song by Rich Mullins called, “One Thing.” The point of the tune is that Christ should be our One Thing, because the “Pure in heart will see God.” Thanks for the nudge, Barb! I need to always keep the main thing the MAIN THING. Blessings!

In life, things are always changing. Our purpose remains the same…we follow Jesus wherever He leads us! He is the only one who knows the way!!!
