I have always cherished the picture of Mary as she gazed into the face of her new born son. What joy and awe she must have felt at the gift she had been given. She heard this same excitement in the words of the shepherds. I believe, in that moment she realized how very important Jesus was going to be to the world. The scripture below says that she pondered all these things in her heart. Said another way, she made sure to hide each moment in her heart. What a beautiful way to be able to celebrate the best moments of ĺife.
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. – Luke 2:16-20 NIV
What type of things do you hide in your heart? Are they things that you openly share with others or are they things you save for private reflection?

Imagine… no selfies…no Facebook posts or likes. Just Mary taking pictures with her memory and treasuring them in her heart.

They are not hidden from God. To hide something in your heart means you cherish the memory.

I write down at least one thing that I’m grateful for every day. Sometimes it may be as simple as “hot coffee”. It has truly helped me cultivate my attitude-of-gratitude

I ponder much in my heart before I take the time to talk about it. Sometimes I never get to the talking about it part though. The fact that we know the Mary pondered these things in her heart hints that she must have told someone her ponderings otherwise how would we know?

I’ve always wondered if that phrase meant Mary took time to work out what it all meant, as well as treasuring the memories.
Thank you for a beautiful post.

Thanks, Barb, for your beautifully expressed reminder to look closely at the gifts God gives us, to see their value, and to thank Him for them. So appropriate for every season, especially the Thanksgiving-Christmas one.
