Until last week I had never heard the word imperturbable. For those of you reading this who are in the same boat, I will give you a couple of definitions:
- unable to be upset or excited; calm
- marked by extreme calm, impassivity, and steadiness
I wish I could say that I am imperturbable, but I am not! On the contrary, I get easily wound up when I feel that something is “wrong.” Not surprisingly, once I get wound up, my brain shuts off & my mouth engages.
Now before you start quoting scripture to me like James 1:19-20 – “You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters . Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.”, please know that I am a work in progress. I have significantly improved in this area over the last few years.
Maybe someday I’ll be called imperturbable. But for now, I’ll continue to pray for self-control in ALL areas of my life
